The honeymoon is one of the most memorable events during a couple's
lives, which is why it is important to pick a destination that will
leave a lasting impression.
The Knot recently announced a survey of more than 12,000 honeymooners to reveal where the most popular locations for a romantic getaway. When it comes to international travel, the top destination was Mexico with 15 percent, followed by Hawaii (12 percent), Jamaica (7 percent), the Bahamas (5 percent), Italy (5 percent), St. Lucia (5 percent), France (3 percent) and the Virgin Islands (3 percent).
Within the U.S., it appears as though most travellers chose sunny, warm places such as Flordia (8 percent), California (5 percent) and Nevada (3 percent).
It also seems as though couples are willing to shell out the big bucks in order to make their vacation one to remember.
"Couples today remain committed to planning a luxurious, unforgettable honeymoon and are willing to spend despite the state of the economy," said Carley Roney, editor in chief of The Knot. "In fact, three in five couples are booking extras on their honeymoon, and 25 percent spent more than they had originally budgeted."
