One of the best things about traveling abroad is the ability to sample new and exciting foods from different cultures, regions and peoples. Yet while Europe and Asia travel offer up a number of culinary delights to sample, those staying in Canada this summer can experience some delectable world cuisine in their own backyard as enRoute Magazine recently listed the best new restaurants throughout the country.
To cultivate this list, researchers sampled more than 200 dishes at eateries across Canada between the summers of 2009 and 2010. The result is a listing of restaurants that travellers would be lucky to dine in on their next trip.
Topping the list was the Haisai Restaurant and Bakery in Singhampton, Ontario. This restaurant boasts a rotating, seasonal menu that uses only locally grown organic meats and vegetables and fresh baked bread.
In second was the Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie in Vancouver, which combines traditional Chinese cuisine with familiar comfort food classics that won reviewers over in a heartbeat.
Cava Spiliadis in Montreal comes in third for its unique spin on the Greek Steakhouse, while Local Kitchen and Wine Bar offers Toronto-bound vacationers simple and delicious food to match it's unpretentious name.
