Now that the summer sun is out, many people are wondering what beaches to travel to in order to enjoy the great weather.

The Montreal Gazette reports that Siesta Beach in Florida was named the number one beach in the U.S., which could be having more people travelling to the area this summer. The list was created by coast scientist Stephen Leatherman, who releases a top 10 list every year just before Memorial Day.

According to the source, three beaches in Florida made the cut this year, as well as beaches in California, Hawaii, New York, Massachusetts and the Carolinas. Leatherman creates his list based on such criteria as water and sand quality and environmental management.

Reuters reports that the rest of the beaches rank as followed: St. George Island State Park in Florida's panhandle, Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island in South Carolina, Coast Guard Beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Waimanalo Bay Beach Park in Oahu, Hawaii and Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne, Florida.
